Meridian Schools receives School Construction Grant Payment

Meridian CUSD #15 Receives School Construction Grant Payment

The Meridian CUSD #15 recently received its second payment of $19,630,178.86 for the School Construction Grant that it was awarded from the State of Illinois.   With this payment the State has paid $22,969,757 of the $29,186,155 the school district was awarded.   The $19.6 million payment reflects 90% of the State’s obligation towards the construction of Phase 1 and Phase 2.  The school district is scheduled to receive another payment of approximately $1.8 million dollars when Phase 2 is substantially complete. Phase 2 of the Meridian School Construction project consists of the building of a new PreK-5 school building in Blue Mound, the construction of a new high school facility in Macon and the renovation of the existing Meridian High School to house the Meridian Middle School.

“With this deposit, the Capital Projects fund will have a balance of $25,884,506.  That is enough money to cover all of the contracts awarded to date, the remaining retainage for Phase 1, and have about $1,900,000 left over for contingency funds.  Having this money in hand is a great benefit to the district and also relieves a lot of stress among the board of education, the administrators and the community.  We can now focus on building the best schools that we possibly can with the money allotted to us.  We are very excited for the opportunities these new facilities will provide for our students.” Stated Mr. Dan Brue, Supt. of Meridian Schools.

Construction has begun on the second phase of the Meridian Schools Construction Project at the Blue Mound Campus and the Macon Campus.  The anticipated completion date for the additions is August, 2015 with the renovation of the existing Meridian High School to be complete in December, 2015.

The Meridian School District is beginning the design of the final phase of the building project which will consist of additional parking at the Macon Campus, a new athletic complex, and playgrounds at the Elementary Building in Blue Mound.  The school district anticipates the design and bidding for the final phase to be complete by December, 2014.

The construction of the new schools has been made possible by the School Construction Grant Program through the Illinois Capital Development Board.  The total construction project is $44,956,700.  The School Construction Grant provides for $29,186,155 of the total project cost.  The local share of the project is $15,769,745.
