I am Erika Dowd and this is my sixth year of teaching at Meridian.  I teach chorus, music appreciation, and general music for grades K-12.  I grew up in Moweaqua and graduated from Central A&M High School.  Most of my family still lives in Moweaqua to this day.  After high school, I attended Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL.  In December of 2010, I was awarded  my Bachelor of Science degree in Music.  After graduation I spent a semester as a substitute teacher for the Jacksonville School District and also worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield.

Currently, I have been given opportunities to adjudicate IHSA and IESA Solo & Ensemble Contest as well as sing with the Jacksonville Symphony Chorale.  In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, reading, riding my bike, and rooting on my St. Louis Cardinals, and the Fighting Illini!

I am very excited to work with a talented group of students.  Now as a district wide music teacher, I have the opportunity to watch my students grow from their first day in Kindergarten to their senior year of high school.  Each year is a new experience and I cannot wait for the thrilling ride ahead!
